USS INGERSOLL

USS Ingersoll (DD-990), a Spruance-class destroyer, was the second U.S. Navy ship to be named USS Ingersoll; in this case, in honor of Admiral Royal E. Ingersoll (1883–1976), who served as CINC, Atlantic Fleet during most of World War II. Ingersoll was laid down on 5 December 1977 by Ingalls Shipbuilding, Pascagoula, Miss.; launched on 10 March 1979; and commissioned on 12 April 1980, Commander E. R. Fickenscher III in command. Ingersoll was first homeported in San Diego, CA, then Long Beach, CA (for overhaul) and then Pearl Harbor. Ingersoll was one of the first US Navy ships to receive the Armored Box Launcher (ABL) version of the Tomahawk cruise missile system in 1985. This early variant of the missile system held up to four missiles in each of two canisters located directly forward of the pilothouse on the fore deck. Unfortunately, this system proved to be very heavy and affected the ship's seakeeping. The much more capable Vertical Launch missile system (VLS) quickly made the ABL obsolete. Though Ingersoll was one of the newest ships of the Spruance class, it was one of the earliest to be decommissioned. The cost to remove the ABL system and retrofit the VLS system likely contributed to the ship's early decommissioning. Ingersoll was decommissioned and stricken from the Navy list on 24 July 1998. She was sunk as a target on 29 July 2003.

Here we go!!!

Alright folks, the scouting has been completed and PLANET HOLLYWOOD Las Vegas has won. So now is the time to get this party bus moving!! Based on menus and accommodations, they had the overall best for the event.

To the Ingersoll Crew:

We have picked the Hotel that we are going to hold the First of many Ingersoll reunions. The date is July 24th, 2009. The location will be at the Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino. http://www.planethollywoodresort.com/ This will be a fun hotel that can handle this crew. The weekend will begin with a cocktail party in one of their Panorama Suites on Friday the 24th at around 5 pm till ???? http://www.planethollywoodresort.com/acc_panorama_suites.php <-- if you click the link you will be able to see the suite. Saturday morning we will have Golf for anyone that would like to golf at Angel Park Golf Course, Las Vegas http://www.angelpark.com/sites/courses/newpage.asp?id=225&page=4215. Saturday evening will be having a catered meal in one of the Reception Rooms at Planet Hollywood from 6 to 10pm. There are many people we have not heard from and would like to know if you are able to make it or not.

The price of the reunion is going to be based upon how many people that respond back. The cost will included dinner on Saturday night and the hospitality function on Friday night. Friday night will be finger foods, snacks, Sodas, water, beer, and alcohol. Also, we are have Reunion Shirts made up.

What we need from you is to respond back to this email with the number of adult/children that will be attending. We need to have a good head count to reserve the room that will accommodate all of us.

Once we have a good head count of people that would like to attend we will be able to calculate the cost for the reunion. The number of people attending will determine the price of the room and food for Saturday night. Please let us know ASAP.

Remember we still need pictures sent to us. Scan them and send them!!
